In August of 1993 a George Barna survey pointed out some amazing statistic about Christianity in America. 88% of all Catholics as well as a majority of mainline Methodists and Presbyterians agree with this statement:
“If people are generally good, or do enough good things for others during their lives, they will earn a place in heaven.”

We live among people and in a country that is decieved about the central issues of the gospel.

Proverbs 14:12 describes this deception as follows:

“There is a way that seems right to a man,
but in the end it leads to death.”
Prov 14:12 (NIV)

Clarity on these essential issue must begin with the Christian community.  If we, as Bible believing and evangelicial Christians, are not clear about the core issues of the gospel, then why would we expect others to be.  A vast majority of Americans believe that eternal life is avaliable to people who believe in God and are good people.  Our friends and family believe this because we have not been clear.  Our loved ones are trusting in their own goodness and one day they will stand before their Creator and realize that they "fall short of the glory of God".  That will be a sad day for us...and especially sad if we failed to clearly share the a clear gospel.  The saddness of self-righteousness is that it allows people to trust in themselves and their own good works to help get them into a right relationship with God.  This teaching is not only dangerious but it is according to the Apostle Paul, "Peaching another gospel" and in Galatians 1:3 he says to those who preach this message, "Let them be cursed...". 

To combat this deception we have to resolve, as Christians, to be absolutely clear in communicating the truth about how people come into an eternal relationship with the God of the Bible and His Son, Jesus Christ.  In order to do that we have to be prepared. The following are six ways that we can generally prepare ourselves for the opportuniites that God will surely give to us, His children, who are seeking to share the Good News with unsaved friends and family:

Be Prepared with Your Testimony...

Be Prepared with Short Answers…
